My local Best Buy store bans me AGAIN

I had written back in November 2016 about how my local Best Buy store banned me due to buying gift cards (I still don’t know why that store hates people buying gift cards. If the system lets the customer buy, then it helps sales numbers. I’m sure a good chunk of their volume comes from resellers and gift cards.

Anyhow, after a year or so, I eventually started going back into the store to buy stuff and it was fine. I figured new management, whatever. It’s been 4 years now and the store is fine. Then about a month ago, I had a lot of stuff to return and so I’d return stuff and then buy gift cards at the same time. Maybe only 2 times a week for like a month, so it’s not like I’m going every day.

Then my buddy went to go pick up his PS5 a few weeks ago and the manager comes over and starts yelling at him for buying gift cards all the time. My buddy and I don’t look alike except that we’re both Asian, so clearly the manager thinks all Asians look alike. Immediately my buddy knew the manager was talking about me, but he didn’t want to make a scene and so he left.

Fast forward later that day and I had a PS5 pickup. I didn’t want to go into the store and so did curbside pickup. After a while, a young kid comes out and says, “My manager says you’re a reseller and you can’t shop here anymore.” So now I’m not sure if it’s the same manager as 4 years ago, but alas, I’ve been banned from shopping at the store again. At least he was nice enough to give me my PS5 and not just cancel it (he’s cancelled Switches in the past.)

    1. It is true, but it doesn’t make sense to give out tax exempt to resellers and then ban resellers at the same time.

  1. Hey brother, I can relate to your story and could use sagacious insight from a seasoned veteran like yourself.

Recently, my BB business and personal accounts got canceled (and currently under investigation) for ‘violating terms, etc.’ which I guess is true but really no concrete conclusive proof of it.

Like when I go into my respective accounts, no transaction history is showing and none of my posted or accrued rewards points are appearing. I had over $600 of rewards, but I don’t even care about that.

What worries me is that I had all these outstanding refunds owed to me from BB amounting to thousands of dollars. I’ve been calling BB hotline n on stop and nobody is giving me a straight answer. Currently, it is under investigation but with so much at stake, I feel I deserve to have some clarity on the matter. Obviously, I would love to be reinstated and continue rolling with BB after this mess, but am I worrying to much about not being refunded the amounts they are withholding? Looking forward to your response ~MNG

    1. You better CFPB, BBB and attorney general them. But yeah, they are known to wipe accounts so I have a separate GC account and a separate legit purchases account.

      1. I have the same thing where I separated my personal and business (which btw is a registered LLC), but I guess my mistake was using the same phone number for both accounts. I just hate seeing all this debt on my cc’s with no clarity on the status of these refunds owed to me.

        1. And as an addendum-before this whole episode, literally like 90% of my orders were getting cancelled for ‘not being able to verify information’ which is such bs.

I have the BB rewards cc and used a different CC. Tried all the tricks like matching shipping address with billing address, go into the store to make purchase, use different cc, etc.

Any general advice on how to get around this? Even going from 9/10 times rejected to 3/4 times rejected would be a huge improvement.

    2. I have gained over 8K of BB reward certificates this year. For whatever reason, they have kept the doors open and I’ve been having the ride of my MS life.
