I was browsing TikTok one night and saw a video of someone walking into a Home Depot store and buying one of these cute night lights for $10 or so (it’s $12.98 now.) I don’t remember if it was the 2nd or 3rd video I saw of the same night light, but I checked on Ebay and the same light was going for $25 or so. That’s when I told my Slack folks to jump on the trend.
There were 3-4 different animals – this cute dinosaur, a whale and a unicorn. The dinosaur was by far the most popular due to its cuteness and that’s what was in the original video. It had consistent sales of $30; I think it might have peaked at $50 for one week.
Unfortunately Ebay doesn’t show price history back to early June when we bought but here are some sales a month after it went viral. They were pretty light to ship, so it was easy lunch money. Not everything needs to be big profitable kayaks; sometimes flips will be smaller and just make you lunch money. Lesson learned – watch Tiktok to catch early trends on hot items.
