Making your own boba tea at home

I thought I was immune to Instagram ads, but this one got me. I was browsing through IG a few weeks ago and saw a DIY boba tea kit from RareTea. I figure with the quarantine, I’m at home all day so may as well try it myself. I went ahead and got the $90 “ultimate set” just because I’m bougie like that. Plus, they had free shipping.

The kit arrived in 3-4 days, so pretty fast. The tea part is easy to make (just steep tea in hot water for 10 min.) The boba is the most time consuming part – have to cook for 20 min, let it sit for 30 and then another 10 minutes in some sugar (to give the boba some sweetness.) The first one I made I used too much milk and didn’t put enough sugar in it, but I easily added more sugar. The boba was definitely the perfect texture (not too hard, not too soft.)

A few days later, I made the mango passion fruit green tea and that was DELICIOUS. Pictures below. Naturally, I’m thinking would I re-buy the kit after I’m done? I’m leaning NO just because I think I can get these ingredients from my local Asian grocery market. But for a first time, I do highly recommend you try this kit.
