Clarification on the AMEX Hilton Lifetime bonus points

When I posted about the AMEX Hilton Surpass deal a few weeks ago, a reader pointed out that maybe only the “bonus” points go towards the lifetime base points since most of the promo material does say “bonus” points. This means that instead of having all 12X grocery points count towards lifetime, maybe only 9X goes towards the lifetime status.

Well I’ll be happy to report that the full 12X goes towards lifetime status. Another reader spent about $20K at grocery and their points recently posted last week. He then confirmed with Hilton that he now has 240K base lifetime points.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for my 300K points to post; apparently AMEX is holding points hostage for up to 60 days these days. Some folks have gotten their points 2 days after statement close, but mine have been missing for 2 weeks now. It’s possible that because I had no spend on the card prior to the promo so maybe the ramp scared AMEX. I guess I’ll wait and see…

  1. Any word on your points posting? There are a half dozen+ folks in the churning subreddit about the category bonus not posting after the statement closed with balances above 20-25K. Your statement closed roughly 10 days before mine. Starting to think the worst.
