Michelle Obama had a book tour in late 2018 that is going through early 2019. She was coming to both Portland and Seattle. I decided to go with Portland over Seattle even though the Tacoma Dome has 10% more seats (3K.) Even though Seattle arguably has more liberals (maybe) and more money (all that tech money,) my gut told me to pick Portland over Seattle. I decided to go with the cheap seats over premium seats just because I felt that the ‘get in the door’ price was more important than trying to see her more up close. I had put this as a 3 on the risk/reward scale just because I thought who wants to pay money for a book tour.
Anyway, the seats were VERY HARD to purchase and they were somewhat bad seats since they were as far away from the stage as you could get. Here’s a screenshot from 2/7 (the show is in 2 days by the way) and tickets are still $100.
Anyway, the 8 tickets cost me $491 all in so about $61 a ticket back in mid December. I sold them on Vivid around mid January (about 3 weeks out) for a buyer price of about ~$175 or so. My takehome for all 8 tickets was $1,350, a profit of $859 (a 175% ROI). That’s better than current Hamilton money. That’s Ellen money...in an arena. I looked at some Seattle prices and the ‘get-in’ price for Portland is definitely much higher than Seattle. Lastly, you can see how prices have fallen since the show is 2 days away, so try not to wait until the last few days to sell tickets.
