A reader wrote this story and let me share it with you guys (bolding mine):
Walmart locked up 3 of my gift cards after I made two purchases that were cancelled.
The total balance on those cards were over $1100
I emailed them and they responded with this:“Per Walmart’s term and conditions, In the case of fraud, misrepresentation, abuse or violation of the terms and conditions, Walmart reserves the right to refuse acceptance of the card, and to take all available action , including the forfeiture of any remaining card balance.

GC Team”The gift cards were obtain legitimately and i provided them with the prove requested. Any suggestion? Pretty pissed off right now.
Lessons Learned
I told the reader to write to the BBB and CFPB them if necessary. This is such BS. I asked the reader how he got the gift cards, and it was through a legitimate channel (not 3rd party site or so.) It’s scary to think that Walmart can decide to just cancel any gift cards. Sounds like those CBP civil forfeiture stories. I know I have a cancelled order out with them that they haven’t returned the balance yet, which I need to call them about. The big lesson learned here is – DON’T USE WAL-MART GIFT CARDS ONLINE. I give my WMT GC’s to my mom so she can use them in person. Now I exclusively use a credit card on Wmt’s site just because they are very cancel-prone. Also, another site you may want to use cc’s only – Macy’s.
I earned a $25 WM eGC from honey portal (I wanted a plastic GC but that is all they’re offering) which I thought I could convert to a plastic WM GC. Order was initially approved but cancelled the next hour. When I inquired, I was told that they have disallowed payment of plastic WM gcs with WM eGc. To go around it, I ordered something online just below $25 after tax, chose free store pick up. When I went to pick up item, I returned it at customer service desk and got my plastic GC.
Had similar happen to me over Year End 2017. WMT considered my order/gift cards fraudulent and suspended my gift cards/cancelled order. I had bought these through the Q4 Sam’s Club promo, but had used them on my 2nd WMT account to separate spend. Both accounts were in my name and same mailing address. WMT took their sweet time with it being Q4 and all. Had to call in numerous times and speak to one specific person who never seemed to be in the office, but CSRs knew she was there. After about a month of back and forth and proof as to how these GC were obtained, they released them. As it was close to $1k in GC, I was pretty nervous about the whole ordeal and now only put get GC I can use organically and in small amounts in-store.
Why Macys? Please explain.
I know firsthand of people who had ebay GC frozen indefinitely and were not able to get their money back.
This story needs more detail. Who cancelled the orders, him or WMT? What was the reason for cancellation? Why does WMT care one way or the other if an order that was paid for using a GC was cancelled? Etc.
