How I did with those Kaskade tickets

Introduction

A while back, I had asked you guys to help me buy some Kaskade tickets.  Well I finally sold my last pair yesterday.  I had amassed X pairs of tickets in total.  I sold some to friends of friends because I got desperate because prices were tanking on Stubhub.  First off, the reason why prices tanked is because Kaskade decided to let all the seats be sold on the presale, and hence when the public sale was open, there were NO SEATS LEFT.  This made many disgruntled fans tweet him, and a few days later, he added another show the day after the first show.  That caused supply to double and of course with demand staying the same, prices dropped [below face value for a long time.]

Results

Each pair cost $122, but I paid readers an extra $20, so cost to me was $71 per ticket; $142 for the pair.  Here’s how I did for the pairs:

  • $142 – friend of a friend – break even
  • $86 – SH
  • $83 – SH
  • $86 – SH
  • $117 – SH
  • $120 – friend of a friend
  • $120 – friend of a friend
  • $100 – friend of a friend

Total Sales = $854.  Cost = $1,136.  Loss = $282.  OUCH.  As you can see, I lost a lot on Stubhub just because for the months leading up the concert, each ticket was going for less than $50 for the buyer (which means way less after fees.)  At that point, I just wanted to get rid of them.  I should have held strong though because prices recovered the weekend leading up to the concert (the $117 price.)

Lessons Learned

I don’t think anyone could have predicted that he’d play another show.  If he hadn’t, I think prices would have remained high (or at least I wouldn’t have been under water.)  I think in the future, I’ll stay away from this venue.  The venue is an orchestra hall that probably is empty on weekdays, and that’s why he was able to open up a second show so soon.  There’s even talk he may stick around for a third show.  I may even stop all EDM events because like Coachella, there’s an unwritten rule that you shouldn’t profit from fellow ravers.  As for the concert itself, it was pretty good.

  1. Have you done any more Hamilton ticket purchases? Like for Los Angeles? I have 6 I’m waiting to sell for October

    1. No, I want to go to Tomorrowland, but I feel I’m too old for that (e.g. don’t want to deal with being in a massive crowd)

      1. Haha, same for me but I’m 35, don’t know if I’m too old or not. My wife is 32 and wants to go. We’ve been to Amsterdam a few times but never found the time to goto even a club yet. She thinks she’s gonna get ruffied lol. I told her more fun for me hahaha.

      2. I was in Vegas one time the weekend EDC was going on – looked like everyone was having a blast at that festival.
