Why you should only buy the 1 YEAR AARP membership

Introduction

Eh, yes I have an AARP membership.  No, I am not a senior citizen.  In fact, you don’t need to be a senior citizen to join.  And to be honest, I’ve only used it once at an Outback where I think you get 20% off.  The waiter gave me a confused look, but whatever playa.  Anyway, my membership expired back in October and I haven’t renewed since I haven’t had an urge to go to Outback.  Anyhow, when your membership expires, AARP will send you renewal notices.

Renewal offers

First they’ll send you reminder emails.  Then after a few months, they start to get desperate.  The first offer that caught my eye was a “weekend bag” which was like a duffel bag.  However, I had to snail mail the offer in, which was too much work.  Then they emailed me an offer above which they call a “day bag.”  I thought it would be a good bag to use on weekends, and since it was online, I pulled the trigger.  Then as I was crafting this email, I noticed they offered a ‘trunk organizer’ a few months back.  Now I could have gone 3 years for $36 or 5 years for $49, but then I’d miss out on a free bag every year for $15.

Conclusion

Similar to the Sirius XM game and the Comcast game, you should also play this annual renewal game with AARP.  By the way, AAA doesn’t have anything like this.
