Introduction
I never got around to getting a DCU account just because I had no need for it. However, I know people in the game who did. They were depositing mobile money orders into their DCU account. Well, it turns out there was a mass ban wave that struck on Friday 3/23. Here’s the letter that they sent out (bolding mine)
The following letter was sent to you today via Federal Express.
Dear Member:
DCU is required to know its members and have some understanding of the activity occurring on an account and how that relates to our member. Your personal account activity is limited almost solely to the deposit of money orders. This is not the type of activity expected on a consumer account and appears on its surface to be related to manufactured spending, which often results in significant additional due diligence.
Please close your account by March 31, 2017. If the account remains open after that date, we will close it and mail a check to you for the remaining balance.
Sincerely,
Risk Management
Digital Federal Credit Union
Well it seems that DCU knows what MS is and didn’t think it was worth the risk anymore to keep these customers. I know some ppl who did light MO’s and some who did heavy MO’s. A wise man once said: “The pigs get slaughtered with the hogs these days. Did that piece of bacon come from a pig or hog? I don’t know. They both taste the same to me.”
No really, the lesson learned here is that the game just lost another option to unload MO’s. I’m sure it’s a matter of time before other CU’s do the same.
Props to them for being so upfront with the reason for account closure and giving the customer the ability to close the account before they do.
