My $200 rookie reselling mistake

Introduction

For the past month, the hottest video game item to resell wasn’t the Nintendo Switch or even the Pikachu 3DS.  No, it was the Zelda Breath of the Wild Master Edition.  MSRP is $129.99, but it’s been sold out for months now.  I didn’t think we’d ever see it back in stock, however my boutique reseller tipped me off this morning while I was getting dressed up for work.  I got a notification on my Apple Watch and ran down to my office ASAP!  The item was available from Gamestop.

Every second counts

I was smart enough to avoid a portal (those extra 5 seconds matter.)  I fired up the Gamestop site, searched for it, added to cart, went to cart, logged in with a password program.  Got to the final screen.  All of this within 15 seconds since my watch notified me.  THAT’S WHEN I GOT CUTE!  I tried to go back to my cart to apply a free shipping code.  IT DIDN’T WORK.  I then try to pay with 3 gift cards.  By the time I entered all 3 gift cards and pushed the submit button, BOOM!  SOLD OUT!  I’m guessing going back to cart and copy and pasting those 3 gift cards probably took 30 seconds.  Within those 30 seconds, it was all sold out. Lessons Learned

When buying hot items that pop in stock, every second matters!  Don’t get cute with portals, coupon codes, or gift cards.  You need to be able to check out ASAP!  How do you get alerts like this?  There are sites and/or Chrome plugins that will track it for you.  I don’t know top of head, but you can Google them.

  1. Yup, learned my lesson the hard way too. Bought a 15% discounted Urban Outfitters GC and when I got the GC a few minutes later the items I wanted were OOS. Know anyone that wants $371 in UO stuff?
