Introduction
As I’m typing this on Thursday night, the preorders for the Nintendo Switch already launched at both Best Buy and Walmart. I won’t even bother to link you because by the time you read this, it’ll be sold out or pushed way back. Go ahead and try though; won’t hurt. Nintendo either is the worst company in demand planning (see NES Classic which is still selling like hot cakes) or they intentionally under produce new products to generate demand. I’m going to assume the latter since I’m sure really smart people work at Nintendo.
Where to preorder
Walmart’s inventory system seems to be the most accurate because as my resellers bought, we could see the dates push back. Best Buy either got the largest inventory or has the worst preorder inventory system because it still has you receiving the item on the launch date. You guess which one is correct.
Conclusion
I’m not even sure how well this thing will resell, but buy first, think later. If the market is flooded, just return it. Don’t buy if you have kids or if you are a grown up kid yourself because you may wind up keeping it, which is the kryptonite of reselling.
Seems to be out of stock everywhere, any tips on where to pre-order one of these?
I think you’re SOL Adam. Just keep checking those retailers in case they get new preorders in.
BestBuy doesn’t let you buy more than 1 per head (or) order. Might explain why?
Best Buy’s system rather sucks. You can load both onto your cart, but for some reason only the black stays (the Neon is “sold” out). So I loaded 2 for separate stores and hope I’m more pleased than disappointed.
Kryptonite is real, I ended up keeping one of the DSes I bought last year but the reselling effort ended up paying for that one.
I love the term kryponite of reselling, but your previous post about the headphones involved some kryptonite.
