Introduction
I had booked a Budget car rental through Autoslash for about a month now. This morning I get an email from them:
You were originally booked at $239.18 USD, and the price has now dropped to $87.50 USD. We’ve automatically re-booked your rental at the lower rate. You’ve saved $151.68 USD without even lifting a finger!
Awesome right! Then for shits and giggles, I went onto Costco and noticed a cheaper price through Alamo for $83.78. I then punched that into Autoslash and 12 minutes later I get this email:
You’re currently booked at the rate of $83.78 USD with Alamo in a Compact Car. AutoSlash is able to offer you the following lower rates on your rental:
1. Budget (AutoSlash Rating: )
$72.61 USD, for a Compact Car (a savings of $11.17 USD) – Click here to book now!
The only thing I did different was that when entering my new itinerary into Autoslash, I checked the box saying I was a Costco member. So I’m not quite sure if that explains the difference between the $87.50 from this morning to the new $72.61 that I just booked or if this means you may want to double check prices each time you get an Autoslash price update JUST IN CASE a better option is out there that they haven’t booked yet. Or maybe if I waited overnight, they would have found the $72.61 price the next day. Who knows…
Lessons Learned
If you’re a Costco member, make sure to check that box on Autoslash because clearly it does make a difference.
