Introduction
A reader sent me an email a few days ago to send out a PSA about how he locked himself out of his Twitter account and could no longer add AMEX Offers to the linked card. To make it worse, since he couldn’t log into his account, he couldn’t REMOVE the card linkage either. DOUGH!
I actually had a similar issue a few months ago where I had logged into a Twitter account and tried to add a new card to the Twitter account, but it gave me an error saying that that card was already linked. Now how in the hell am I going to find what Twittter account that card was linked to?!?! DOUGH!
Twitter is locking accounts
To add insult to injury, Twitter has been locking accounts and wanted a phone number to verify the account. It was a rather tedious process to unblock my accounts. A couple of things I learned – 1. GV numbers work. 2. You can only do it 5 times before Twitter no longer lets you add that phone number to verify. You’ll have to use a new number…or wait 24 (maybe 48) hours and you can then use that phone number again. By that time however, the #AmexBestBuy offer would have died on you. Hopefully they won’t be locked out again down the road or I’m just going to give up on them.
How to access those AMEX cards
Going back to my reader’s issue as well as my issue – I was trying to figure out how the hell I was going to access those cards. Who do I contact? The AMEX Offers twitter is a bot. Do I call AMEX? Do I reach out to Twitter? Then like an apple falling from a tree like it did with this AMEX offer trick, I realized the easiest solution was to just call AMEX and say I lost the card so I could get a new card number.
Lessons Learned
Try not to lock yourself out of your Twitter account with a linked AMEX card. If it happens to you, just ask for a new card number.
thanks again!
