Tip – Add crappy AMEX Offers to one card and get rid of them on other cards

Introduction

I’ve hated AMEX Offers for a while now, not because of the offer, but the tedious task of logging in, opening multiple tabs, scrolling through offers, adding them, etc.  I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to think of this trick, but it hit me this past weekend.  Take a look at this screenshot:

Add the crap offers

You probably see the same offers, and like me, you have ZERO INTENTION of using any of these offers (well maybe the eBags one.)  And you probably just ignore them and move on to the next card, thus seeing the same offers over and over again.  While we’ve been focusing on adding the offers that we want, we should have also added the offers that we don’t want to one card.  By doing this, it wipes them out on all of my other cards, thus “cleaning up” your offers list and helps you see just the newest offers.

Be careful with this trick though.  Like I said, if I know I might use the eBags offer, I’ll leave it be for now and wait to do the multi-tab trick for just that offer.  The other side benefit of doing this is that if there is a glitch with a crappy AMEX Offer, AMEX may give you some compensation.

  1. If you use the Amex mobile app, there’s an option “Remove this offer” that removes it completely as well… probably better than overwhelming one card with many useless offers…

  2. D’oh! Never thought of this! Great idea, but… one question. With Amex being weird about what people do, even for goofy reasons, do you think any chance they will get weird about loading so many offers onto just one card? I attracted way too much attention from them last year and though all is well, I don’t want to do it again!

    1. I doubt it Carl. You are adding the offers; not actually using all of them. If I were them, I’d expect some consumers to add all the offers opportunistically but not actually redeem all of them.
