Introduction
I haven’t bought anything from Kohl’s in a while, so my coworker told me this the other day and I verified it with other resellers. In that past, if you used your $20 Kohl’s Cash to buy say a $20 toaster oven, but later you change your mind and return it, they would give you merchandise credit for $20.
KC returns goes back as KC
Well my coworker went to return something in October and they gave him back a NEW Kohl’s Cash certificate instead of merchandise credit. He says this probably started happening in October since it was business as usual in September. There is an expiration date on the NEW KC that is different from the used KC on the original order.
Lessons Learned
It’s tough being a reseller these days. This change means you can’t just keep pushing off purchases. When you get KC, make sure you are using it on something that you most likely won’t return.
You should be able to get around this if you get a gift receipt when you pickup the item if you did store pickup. Then return with the gift receipt and you should receive a merchandise card. I haven’t bought anything from Kohl’s in months either, so it may not work like this anymore.
Changed a couple of weeks ago.
Strategy here is that you can keep whatever it is you purchased with the KC and delay the return until you’re ready to use the KC on something else. In addition, the refunded KC, which is blue color, has a 30-day expiration from the date of return instead of the typical 1-week window of the green KCs.
Ah I didn’t even think of that.
You can keep pushing off purchase. Make any purchase with new KC and keep that purchase with receipt. You can always return for full value.
Ah good point.
Another negative change is that the Yes2You rewards now convert to 5 dollars for every 200 points instead of 100 points earlier.
Ooph, I didn’t even notice that change either.
