Google Flights now has EMAIL price alerts

Introduction

Google Flights is now my go-to search engine (I used to use Kayak for the longest time.)  Well, I’m not sure how it came up, but Esther from DemFlyers told me that they now have email price alerts whereby you can search for a flight, “save it” and then Google will email you when a flight has changed.  Here’s how it works:

Create a price alert

First search for your flight and then click on ‘Track’ on the right hand side (see crude circle.)

Turn on Email Notifications

After a week or so, I noticed I wasn’t getting any emails.  Well you have to click on ‘View all’ to get to the next screen.  Now make sure Email Notifications is turned on.  And that’s it.  Simple as that.

Real life example

On August 6 at 3PM, I got this email:

Then on August 8 at 6PM, I got this email:

Then on August 9 at 10PM, I got this email:

Conclusion

It seems that they track it near real time or so since the emails come at different hours of the day versus just a daily alert at the same time that Yapta has.  This most likely won’t work with Southwest, but it’ll work great with Alaska, who will give you a credit if the price drops.

  1. it will work with Southwest in a way. Log on and select change flights, pick the same schedule and then you will have a credit you may use for up to one year. Not cold hard cash, but a credit which works fine for me.
