Two more Barclays shutdowns and more misc news

2 more Barclays shutdown

From a reader last weekend – “So joining the big boys league today – my Barclays accounts got axed. Not much MS, around 5-6k inconsistently,  and I did cfbp 3 times each month for past 2 months and am with Vinh that it should be the primary reason for s/d. I however took my wife off as the AU not 3 days ago so her own newly opened account looks fine for now. Had 70k points with A+. Bottomline, small/any MS + cfbp will get you axed faster than big MS with legit bank payments, I think!”

The 2nd one is from aegt who commented on Wednesday in this post – “Whole family got shutdown. I think WM BP did it.”

Followup to my ATM MO issue

From this week’s story, the ATM card’s bank called me on Thursday telling me that they contacted the ATM bank and the ATM bank said there was no record of me even using the other bank’s card in the ATM!?!  The lady asked me if I was delusional and if I had actually used the other bank’s ATM card.  I told her I wasn’t crazy because if I had used the ATM owner’s card, the rep and I wouldn’t have had that discussion and I wouldn’t have wasted an hour driving over to her bank.  She then stated, “Well how would they know your account number?”  “Well that’s a great question because I have no clue either lady!”  She told me to contact them to find out.  I told them no thanks, the money’s in my account already; I don’t need/want to know how they figured it out.  Case closed.

Paying the IRS with a PPBDC for 1% hopefullky

I owed taxes this year.  Instead of just paying with my checking account, I tried to go to pay1040.com and used my PPBDC.  It auto detected it as credit.  NO thank you.  Payusatax.com however let me pick a debit card option.  Here’s hoping I get 1%.  I felt the $2.69 fee was worth the risk.

Discover Fraud

Some idiot got my wife’s Discover card and tried to do a cash advance to USBank.  If that’s not the most idiotic move, I don’t know what is…well except for the idiot who used a stolen cc to buy furniture DELIVERED to his address.

  1. I’ve done a bunch of billpay to my A+ card the past few months (about 2k a month), and haven’t been shut down yet. It’s Kmart billpay if that makes a difference

    1. It doesn’t make a difference. There will always be cases where people go, “Hey I did the same thing but wasn’t shut down.” And to those people, I just say, “Cool. Good for you. Keep at it then if you’re not scared of the repercussions.”

  2. I’ve had my CC stolen and the idiots had a TV delivered to their house.

So CFBP seems to be a cause of shutdowns. How else can we pull out funds from a prepaid card? I used to pay rent but that door closed a while ago.

    1. In order of preference – BP into a CU account > BP your VX Visa card or some small bank that you don’t GAF > BP to Discover/Cap1. I’m sure there are others; those are top of my mind.

        1. Yes, I can do this paying my CU visa credit card. I’ve also been paying the CU CC via MO directly deposited as payment to the CU visa CC. Doing this in a shared branch.

        2. I’ve heard of WMBP directly into some CU checking accounts. That’s the unicorn I’ve been chasing of late!

      1. Seems that finding a CU that allows that avenue is the challenge. Not seeing how paying a CC at a small bank would help much unless it had a valuable rewards program? VX= comenity or ultra VX prepaid? Been using my discover that way, as I want to lay off running MO’s through WF before applying for one of their CC’s and don’t want to risk using BP with Citi or Chase.

    2. I have 3 prepaids now from a CU (can’t disclose them due to fragility). After seasoning them for a year, I just pay SeeTea and Ca1 via phone using the DC number. It was worth the wait to do a lot of regular spend on the card aside from MOs to simulate activities of regular customers. I pay my CC balance average of $750 to $900 at a time. I pay $2 fee for every $3K loads to these prepaids, which is a lot cheaper than most MS routes. They also come in handy when I’m trying to meet min spend on new CCs except Amex.

      1. I have a smilar setup with 2.5k/$2 loads since the last few months. Would you like to connect privately and discuss as this can help us mutually to diversify our MS portfolio?

        1. There’s only 5 CUs that I know of that allow CCs that aren’t their’s to load their prepaids. It is possible we got the same ones, the other 2 I didn’t get in because of membership requirement I can’t meet. I’m not too sure about discussing it because I got burnt the last time I shared a unicorn, it died just a month so I learned my lesson. All I can tell you is to take care of your unicorn, if others find it, just consider it the natural course when there’s too many of you loading several thousands a month.

          1. Agree 100% to what you’re saying, plus they really are a result of hard work. My find is totally through my own trials for months (and I found 2) and not shared with anyone till date. After reading pen’s comment, it got me thinking of an exchange/diversification as no one else would understand the value of keeping it safe and guarded as someone who has found a unicorn just like I did. That said, maybe we should have a group of unicorn hunters and gatherers 🙂 When things are shutting down left and right, a trusted partnership may save the day!

          2. The 2 of you should really stop talking about the unicorn. Even mentioning there is a unicorn still out there could lead to hunters. Let them think it’s dead. Btw, I also had a unicorn but too much exposure killed it back in ~Sept or so. I found another one recently, but don’t use it that often. Even if 5 other ppl found it, it could lead to its death, so shhhhh

      2. You are able to load these with a CC? This would be worth looking into. I’ve also heard of BP being used creatively at CU’s in other ways that could be worth exploring.

      1. Address was not in my state so local PD didn’t want anything to do with it. CC company sent me a new card and that was the end of that.
