A new way to cash out that department store’s pseudo cash

Introduction

This one’s for my resellers.  I’m not going to name the store since the Cardinals are watching, but it shouldn’t be hard to connect the dots.

Store pickup

About a couple of months ago, this store started to allow in-store pickups.  That’s not the exciting part.  This was:

If your order is not picked up within 5 days after we notify you that it is ready, it will be cancelled and the merchandise will be returned to the store floor. You’ll be sent a reminder one day before we cancel your order.

If we cancel your order, the credit card that was used will be credited for the amount of the order. Any merchandise credits, Gift Cards or pseudo cash that was used will be refunded with merchandise credit. The merchandise credit will be mailed and will arrive within 15 days.

Testing this out

Of course I didn’t want to test this out with a large amount of pseudo cash.  So I ordered a shirt or something with $8 of Monopoly money for pickup.

  1. Day 1 – I placed the order (I’m intentionally not putting in exact date)
  2. Day 3 – I got a reminder email to pick up my stuff
  3. Day 7 – Last call to pick up!
  4. Day 8 – Order was cancelled
  5. Day 25(?) – Got a merchandise credit in the mail.

Lessons learned

So everything worked as expected.  A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • This is no way scalable so don’t go nuts or I’m sure the ban hammer will come
  • This would be great for last minute attempts to use up the pseudo cash
  • I wouldn’t put up a very expensive order in case it gets cancelled and now you’ve past the deadline to use the pseudo cash.

  1. why are you ‘intentionally not putting in exact date’? lol that’s what I’m trying to figure out. tho I’m prolly overthinking your reasonings.

    p. sure also know which retailer it is if they ALWAYS do things YOUR WAY.

    1. I’m sure the retailer knows of my blog by now. I don’t want to give them any more fire power against me. I may be paranoid, but better to just err on the side of caution.

  2. Damn, I just spent $400+ in Monopoly Money and picked the items up in time. I don’t know if I’ll keep them or not, but I did get gift receipts just in case I decide to get something else. Thanks for the heads up though, I didn’t know about this.

  3. A post just so darn cute it’s unintelligible to many readers? That’ll boost future readership for sure.

    1. You must be new to the site. I give you the hints; you connect the rest of the dots. How many retailers out there give out pseudo cash?
