Introduction
With the AA devalue, it looks like people are trying to burn up all their AA miles in 2016, and one of those redemptions is in Cathay Pacific First Class. Well, if you were lucky enough to find availability for 1 or 2 people, let’s talk about the best seats if you’re traveling alone or with someone else. By the way, this isn’t anything new since Lucky wrote about it already here (with pictures). but this post will be about HOW to book it (since I helped someone recently with this.)
Best Seat for 1 person is 2A
I think 2A is the best seat if you’re by yourself. The reason is that the middle seats open up to the aisle on the right. Thus, 2A gets you the most privacy. 1A isn’t too bad either. You can reserve 1A online, but not 2A (more on that later)
Best Seats for 2 people would be 1A and 2A
When my wife and I flew this, we originally got 1D and 1K. This isn’t horrible either, but think about it this way – you won’t be able to see each other while sitting in 1D and 1K, so it doen’t matter if you can’t see each other in 1A and 2A. Thus, during the time you aren’t spending together, you may as well have the best seats on the plane right?
How to book 1A and 2A
At first, I called the US call center and asked to move us from 1D to 1K, and the rep said it wasn’t possible since 2A is a bassinet seat. I then tried the HK call center and got the same answer. I figure I’ll give it one more try before I gave up. On the 3rd call, when the rep said that 2A is a bassinet seat, I replied back with, “Well, can you put me in there NOW, and if I need to change seats because someone needs the basinnet, I would be happy to change.” The rep happily agreed to do that, and thus I got 1A and 2A.
A reader was having the same issue last week, and I told them to try the line, and it worked as well. If that still doesn’t work, HUCA. Good luck and have fun in CX F.
