About that Zero Financial 3% card…

I had applied to get this card over 2 years ago!!! I was finally invited a few weeks ago.  They sent me an email saying I was invited and to download the app.  Sorry I don’t have pictures of the process; you guys should be smart enough to tap through screens anyway.  Warning – when setting up your account, they do a HP on Experian!  You see, it’s because the card is a pseudo bank account; meaning, during the process of setting up your account, you link your real bank account’s info.  I entered in my Wells Fargo credentials and moved $1,000 over to the Zero account.  That means I can swipe up to $1,000 using the card.  I gave it a few days and charged the $1,000 off.  I then got a whopping $0.57 rebate even though I should have been at the 3% Carbon level.  Now I will say the charge wasn’t a swipe at a restaurant or so…  Someone else I know charged a $10 lunch, and he did see the $.30 rebate for that.  Thus, it seems Zero is only giving 3% on swipe purchases and some weird % for my purchase.

I don’t plan on using the card anymore since I have other cards that get me 3%, and I don’t have to worry about ‘funding’ it first.  I’m not even sure how they would handle fraud.  Just too much risk for very little reward.  It’s safe to say the product is DoA for us in the game.
