Cancelling my unsold Harry Potter tickets

Introduction

I had bought some Harry Potter tickets a while back like most of you.  The ones who flipped quick made a pretty nice profit.  The ones who tried to price too high (myself included) had to sit on them for a long time. I know a good number of people who cancelled their tickets (remember, you get free refunds up to 14 days before showtime.)  I was in a weird predicament because I had already sold 2 of the 6 tickets on Stubhub, so I was worried they wouldn’t let me cancel seats from an order (I assumed all or nothing.)  Anyway, I did an online chat with them and this is how it went:

You’re all set! Your seats 16-22 been canceled, and you will receive the funds of $1405.50 in the next 3-5 business days. Can I help you with anything else?

no that’s it. thank you

You’re welcome! I hope you have a good day vinh!

Conclusion

So that was that.  How’d I do on the 2 tickets I sold?  About $200 or an ROI of 28%.  I know some of you made $1000 when you sold immediately.  I also know people who bought the dirt cheap seats who did very well.  Thus, the play for HP was super cheap seats vs more premium orchestra seats.  Harry is no Hamilton.

  1. I’m about to return 4 myself for the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. They just aren’t selling beyond the initial hype… Thanks for the reminder! This float can do better elsewhere

  2. It was pretty obvious by early this year these prices weren’t going anywhere but down. And then it seemed like more tickets were being made available all the time so the writing was definitely on the wall and I returned the last two I had a couple months ago. I was lucky enough to unload a couple during the opening hype late last year and made a quick $1,500. I’m assuming/hoping those people who shelled out that much money for tickets are wealthy enough not to care/regret that they could easily pick those tickets up now for 1/4 or less than they paid. Really appreciate the heads up on this one!
