Another Chase reinstatement story

Reader sent me this.  I didn’t probe into why they were shutdown in the first place; let’s assume the usual culprits.  Here’s his story:

One phone call, two people. They specifically asked about the large repetitive purchases to OD, Staples, Kroger, Speedway, Ebay et al. They asked if I was buying gift cards and I said yes. I told them I purchased them as promotional items for my business when they went on sale. I mentioned I was a real estate agent and that by law I couldn’t give cash incentives, but I could give gift cards so that’s what I was doing.

I stated I had ample income and underlying assets to cover all my purchases. She didn’t really care about that and didn’t ask for proof. She stated there was 10x increase in bad accounts resulting from people buying gifts because they have been scammed or buying too many and not being able to pay their accounts. So chase has new algorithms to look for this behavior. She seemed pretty confident I would be reinstated (actually said i would be )and was kind of dismissive of the shut down in my case.

seems like account hasn’t been reinstated as of writing; afaik, phone reps cannot guarantee this kind of action, especially reinstatement of accounts which goes to a higher department that makes the decision. hopefully, the OP does a follow up when account is actually reinstated.
