So I opened a Chase checking to get back in…

It’s been about 2 years since I was banned from Chase.  I had read the way to get back in was to open a checking account and then applying for a cc later.  If they reject you for a checking, that’s bad news.  Quick aside – one banned reader told me she was able to get back in with cc but not checking, so ymmv.  Anyway, I had created a new login just to start fresh and all.  Things looked normal for the first month and all (meaning all I saw was my checking account.)  Then yesterday when I signed in, I saw this:

I looked through my records and I do remember having 2 Freedoms when I was axed, but I also had a BA card as well.  The last 4 on the Freedoms didn’t match what I had in my records, so go figure.  I just found it intriguing that a) they “found me” and listed the Freedoms and b) they didn’t list the BA card.

So what does this mean?  I have no idea.  I guess it’s sorta a good sign that they didn’t immediately axe me again after linking my accounts.  I’ll let this marinate for a few months before I try for a cc (most likely a Ritz.)

On the bright side, I did get this:

  1. Hi, I opened 1st account with chase 2 months back (Business card) and was approved after recon call 3/24 – No previous history with Chase. Stupidly enough used 1st purchase on gc.com for purchase over 1k. Got fraud alert and account was closed after being reviewed by fraud team and just being opened for 5 days. What are chances of applying and getting approved for another business or personal card with Chase. Am I banned ?? I called twice but rep said – they can’t open back account again with large purchase and new credit history 2 years old. Am I blacklist or how do you know if you are blacklisted from chase ?

  2. I just got shut down a few weeks ago, but both my business and personal checking accounts survived, while all five personal and two biz cards were closed. Reasons: Returned payment, too many accounts, “account not used as intended.” Probably also influenced by high utilization causing a low FICO. Any guess how long I should wait?

  3. I’m watching this with interest to see how it turns out. How long til you feel “safe” in your belief that Chase has taken you off their blacklist?

    1. I’ve heard some people wait a year; I’ve heard of others only waiting months, so it may be dependent on the reason for the initial ban.

  4. Just went back and read your initial shutdown post where it seems at the time you were unsure if it was the ramp up in spending, CL cycling. ink abuse or anonymous payments that did you in. Upon reflection now would you say it was probably the anonymous payments that factored most heavily?

      1. Thanks for the insight. I was considering a quick 2 month burst of spend on my Ritz card to get the 75k Platinum…charged 28k last month after sock draw for the previous yr and was definitely worried. I think I will cool it. Platinum status isn’t worth getting 15 accounts shut down.

        1. Another option for you is to get the SPG Luxury AMEX. It grants platinum status after 75k. This way, you can get platinum and not wake up on the wrong side of the bed with Chase if they feel you abused the Ritz card.

I haven’t heard of AMEX being moody like Chase. Maybe you or someone else could let me know, but I haven’t heard of it.

  5. Probably just closed accounts that you need to hide would be my guess…but a little crazy they tracked you down.

  6. Would read too much into it – When I opened my CSP in 2016 and created a new login, it ‘showed’ a Auto loan I had with Chase over 15 years ago as an account, from the SS it shows the FU as closed – just linking your personal info on the backend, maybe hold off applying for anything non 5/24, I want to get a Marriot biz Visa, but Chase seem to be ban happy right now, and I am around 20/24 right now…
