How I did with those 3 Doors Down tickets

Introduction

First off, STOP LAUGHING!  Secondly, yes, they are still together apparently!  I mean, you gotta put food on the table somehow?  Anyway, a reader tipped me off to this opportunity because he had gone the prior year and thought it’d be a good flip.  I asked a ticket reselling expert who advised I should pass due to the venue being a casino.  I forgot the reason why; maybe not enough demand for a flip?  Anyway, I think it was already too late because I had bought a pair of floor seats for $91 all in.

Listing the tickets

Right after I bought it, I couldn’t list the tickets on Stubhub because the event didn’t show up.  The only site that I could list them was Seatgeek.  I had bought these tickets back in mid April and listed them on Seatgeek 2 days after I had bought them.  Then the wait began.  I waited…and I waited…. and I waited.

By mid July, I checked up on these tickets and realized I could list them on Ticketmaster.  So that’s what I did.  I was looking for a $100 take-home (so $9 profit,) but mostly I wanted OUT of these tickets.  Eventually by mid August, I decided to look on Stubhub and sure enough, I was able to list them on there, and I was looking for a $125 take home (so a profit of about $34.)  Then I waited…and I waited…and I waited…

Selling the tickets

Lightning must have struck because I was notified last week that I had sold the pair of tickets for $100 take home.  Woohoo!  A 10% ROI for about 4.5 months of float.  </sarcasm>

Lessons Learned

So get this.  The lesson learned here isn’t to stay away from 3 Doors Down (although that IS a good lesson) or to stay away from casino events.  The lesson learned in this post is that OLD PEOPLE WANT TO BE SITTING DOWN!!!!  Yaaaaasssss!!!  I later learned that the seating sections (in the balcony?) sold much faster and at a much higher ROI.  Think about it.  Who’s going to this concert?  Not millennials or Taylor Swift fans!  These are older people who want to enjoy the show IN A CHAIR!!!  Hahaha.  Know your audience folks!  And yes, I’ll try again next year, but a good balcony seat next time!
