My infatuation with La Croix water

Introduction

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, surely you’ve seen La Croix water popping up in your local grocery store.  It used to be hidden in the soda aisle, but now it’s gotten to the end cap space here at my local Kroger’s in Seattle.  So what is it?  It’s basically sparkling water with a hint of a fruit taste.  It has zero calories as well.  That’s basically it!

Weening off soda

Let’s back up and say that up until 3 months ago, I drank a can of diet soda every day (sometimes even 2 per day.)  I used to love Coke Zero and Diet Dr Pepper (it really does taste like Dr Pepper!)  Btw, green diet Coke is awesome!  I’d have one for lunch and maybe a second one after dinner.  Then there was a Boxed AMEX offer back in November/December.  A few readers mentioned La Croix water.  I hadn’t tried it yet, but for 40% off, I figured I’d give it a shot, so I ordered a case.

Let me first say that I was never a fan of Perrier or Talking Rain.  I always chose STILL water in Europe.  I enjoyed Arrowhead Watermelon, but due to the bottle, I never bought it in bulk.  So my first La Croix was the lime taste.  It wasn’t love at first sip, but I definitely enjoyed it.  I liked how carbonated it was; definitely the most carbonation I’ve ever had in a sparking water.  It had just enough of a fruit hint that it satisfied my sugar craving.  I drank one a day (sometimes 2) for a few weeks.  I essentially replaced my soda with La Croix.  After a few weeks, I went back to a diet soda, and couldn’t take the amount of artificial sugar in it.  I was shocked that I was able to train my tastebuds to enjoy La Croix over soda that fast.

Conclusion

It’s been 3-4 months now and I no longer crave soda.  I had tried giving it up in the past, but it was HARD.  Don’t get me wrong.  I still enjoy soda, but I don’t CRAVE it.  Even when I do have one [every few weeks,] I don’t enjoy it as much as in the past due to the amount of sugar in it.  So if you crave soda and want to replace it, give La Croix a try.

By the way, I’m not going to blow smoke up your ass and say I lost weight, but I feel less guilty for not drinking soda so often.  I don’t know why La Croix is so good compared to other sparking waters (my guess is that it comes in a can instead of a bottle; so it can hold more carbonation.)  And yes, I understand carbonation is bad for my enamel, but let’s take baby steps here.

As for flavor recos, I’ve only tried the orange, lime, lemon, grapefruit, and berry.  I think my favorite so far is berry, but that doesn’t come in the Boxed multi pack.  There are dozens of other flavors that I want to try one day, but I have 10 cases at home to go through first….

  1. Not sure if you have a Costco membership but they sell La Croix at Costco now (at least here in Minneapolis). They used to only sell Lime but have mixed packs now – they’re priced cheaper than Target (that’s even with the team member discount!)

  2. Whenever I kick pop for a while I usually end up losing weight but I don’t drink diet. Maybe that is why

  3. Kroger brand also makes some of these flavored carbonated water and they’re not bad. You know how cheap I am lol. I got hooked on carbonated water from J/F flights and lounges around the world. That and smoked salmon everywhere until we get back home and then it’s back to being a cheapskate.

    1. I don’t know Ken. I don’t like to mess with a good thing. Why don’t you try La Croix and lmk if it’s better.

        1. Nice. I’ll keep my eye out then. I hate how they sell 8 and 12 packs and play around with pricing.

  4. I like La Croix too because they are almost always on sale at my local Target (and that they share the name of one of my favorite adult video stars). The only gripe is that they only come in can, not bottles, and you must finish all in one setting because once it goes flat it is literally undrinkable.

    1. hahaha, every time I’m grocery shopping with my wife I get a chuckle when we pass the La Croix water and she gives me the unamused look.
