Introduction
A reader tipped me off that Snapchat Spectacles could be ordered online about a month ago. They cost $129.99 + tax and shipping was $10. The limit was 6 per household, and don’t ask me why but I only bought 4 like a newbie idiot. I mean, if you’re gonna do something, you either go all the way or don’t go at all. Why half ass it? Anyway, I bought 4 and I was going to give one to wife, so only 3 left to resell. I thought about keeping one for myself but then wised up.
Selling them
I posted them to both CL and FB. Sure enough, I got 2 responses on FB and none on CL. I eventually sold 1 for $200 on FB within a day. Other ppl had them for $250+. I turned down 1 offer of $150. It took me 2 weeks but I finally sold my last 2 on Ebay for $190 gross, so let’s call it $170 net. So all in, I got $540 and a cost of ~$440. A somewhat easy $100 flip and a 23% margin.
The odd thing is that the FB person asked me if I got them at a kiosk and I told her online. Good thing she didn’t check online while I was meeting her, else she would have seen they were and still are available online (albeit with a 1-2 week wait.)
Lessons Learned
If you’re gonna take a gamble, either buy the max or don’t buy at all.
