Review – Sheraton Mall of Emirates Dubai Suite

Introduction

We had a 1 night layover in Dubai on our way to the Seychelles.  We were landing at 8PM and flying out at 10AM.  I initially booked the Grand Hyatt since it was close to the airport, but changed it to the Sheraton Dubai because a) I wanted to check out the Mall of the Emirates ski slope and b) our body time would be 8AM so I figure walking around for 4 hours would help us adjust to the new time zone and c) I was closing in on SPG Platinum status.  Plus I found out the mall closes at midnight, even on a Thursday night!

Check in

Note that I’m just a Gold member and when the receptionist handed me the room key, she sorta whispered that she gave me the biggest room on the club level.  I wasn’t expecting it at all and thanked her.  She also recognized that I was using my SPG Business card and told me I had access to the Club room, which I thought I’d have to argue over.

Wifi

The wifi was based on name and room number.  I felt it was fine.

Room

When walking down the hall, I noticed that the room was at the very end of the hall.  That’s always a good sign.  When I stepped in, I noticed I could turn left (a bed) or right (a sofa.)  Needless to say, she did indeed upgrade us to a suite.  Pictures below.

Conclusion

I have a thing for hotels connected to malls for some reason.  I don’t even like to shop that much anymore.  Anyway, while the hotel and room was nice, it did cost us about $50 USD roundtrip using Uber from the airport.  I didn’t think it’d be THAT expensive.  Looking back, I’d still do it again just because it was surreal to see a ski slope in a mall.  That and the fact there’s a Shake Shack and Din Tai Fung (no pork xlb though) in the mall.  I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for anyone else who has a 1 night layover in Dubai.

  1. Isn’t it crazy how it seems you get upgraded etc. on the one night stays when you don’t really need them….that is how it always works for me at least. Probably since you won’t be taking up the room very long.
