Review – Hyatt Andaz West Hollywood California

Introduction

We had a 1 night stay here in December.  Initially, I booked it using 20K Hyatt points, but then found a points + cash availability a few weeks ahead.  I was going to use a DSU, but all of the suites were being renovated at the time, and so we just stayed in a regular room facing the hillside.  We had been to the Andaz Maui and Andaz New York, so this was our 3rd Andaz.

Getting to hotel

Since we were there only 1 night, I had to decide if I wanted to just take an Uber the entire time or rent a car ($30) and pay for the $40 valet charge.  I ultimately decided to just go with an Uber.  For reference, it cost about $25 from the airport to hotel one way.  Uber in Los Angeles was relatively cheap, so I would choose that option again if I had to do it over.

Lobby

The checkin was fairly easy.  Walk in.  Walk up to the people standing around a table and they’ll check you in.  If I recall, for the Diamond amenity, we had 3 options to choose from – 1K points, a cheese/fruit plate, or a sweets macaroon plate.  We chose the wine and macaroon plate, which was delivered about 2 hours after we got into the room.

Wine Hour

Like the Andaz New York, this Andaz also has a free wine hour.  If I recall, it was from 6pm to 7pm.  We didn’t partake this time since we were still jet lagged.  I assume they served a red and a white.

Wifi

The wifi was name and room if I recall.  I had no issues with the wifi.

Room

Our room was a standard double bed.  The view was ordinary.  Nothing special to write home about.  Like all Andaz properties, all of the snacks on the table and non-alcoholic drinks from the minibar are free.

Breakfast

The Diamond breakfast was pretty nice.  You could do the buffet plus order any ala carte items.  My wife was still resting, so I was able to get the buffet for myself, added an omelette, and the waiter let me order a smoothie to bring back to my wife.

Rooftop Pool

It was a bit chilly, so no one was swimming.  We saw some people in the lounge chairs though.  They said that during the summer, a bar area opens up.

Conclusion

The hotel was okay.  The location was okay.  Do I recommend it if you’re going to be around the area?  Sure.  Would I stay here again?  Most likely not.  I may try the SLS next time.  Maybe once the suites are remodeled, I’d stay here again.
