Reselling limited edition Nintendo 3DS XL systems

Introduction

I had written about how I resold the Pikachu Nintendo DS systems a while back.  If you don’t follow Nintendo, they put out these limited edition versions about once a quarter or so.  I had actually bought this last year on 12/27/2015 for $175 plus tax from Gamestop.  Don’t ask me why Nintendo would release something AFTER Christmas, but whatever.  I was a bit worried how these would resell since the system is fairly old.  That’s why I only bought 2 of them.  I threw them in a big box along with my stupid BB-8’s, just hoping they would appreciate.

Selling them

I was finally cleaning up my basement this past weekend and found the 2 systems.  I checked on eBay and what do you know – they were going for about $300.  Now I probably should have waited until after Thanksgiving, but I just wanted them out of my house.  After fees, I should have profited about $100 each.

That bad boy above I bought on 1/13/16 for $199.99.  I only bought 1 since I was a bit leery with all these “special edition” 3DS systems.  It too went into the “wait for XMAS next year” box.  That too just sold on Ebay for $300.  Due to its higher price, I’ll only have netted $50 after everything.

Lessons Learned

I think it’s safe to say that these limited edition Nintendo systems are a good reselling item.  However you may need to sit on them for a year or so.  At least they are small and don’t take up too much space.  I won’t hesitate to buy a few more the next one I see.

  1. Damn it Vinh I would’ve paid 300 for the Pokemon edition in a heartbeat! Can you advertise some of your stuff here first next time so your loyal readers can get a first crack at it?
