Have I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks due to… manufactured spend?

Introduction

I have a Withings wifi scale that I bought about 3 years ago.  It’s totally unnecessary, but the best part about it is that it tracks my weight over time by uploading it into the cloud.  I don’t weigh myself every day.  I do try to weigh myself every Monday morning though.  I love the app too; it shows you your weight over time.  Mine looks like the S&P 500 over the last 3 years by the way.

Two Mondays ago

Anyway, I weighed myself 2 Mondays ago and noticed I had dropped 5 pounds in the prior weeks!  I thought it was probably a fluke, so I weighed myself again this past Monday and saw I had lost another half pound, so it looks like the weight loss is sticking!

As you can see, I was on a trajectory to cross 180 pounds, which would NOT have been good.  I would have had to buy new jeans and I just didn’t want to go there.

So what happened?

I can tell you that I haven’t changed my diet in the past month.  I haven’t started to exercise or anything else.  So what happened a month ago?  Well this happened.  Yup!  The only major change in my life is now I am going hard on MS again.  It’s taking at least 3 hours a day these days.  I think all the driving and walking around (or possibly stress) has led to my weight loss.  That is the only explanation.  See, forget Weight Watchers, paleo diets, hot yoga, crossfit, etc – just crank up your MS and you’ll make money AND LOSE WEIGHT!

  1. lol I know this post is in jest… but uhh the stress hormone cortisol causes weight gain, not loss… so while the sudden weight loss might not be healthy, maybe the silver lining is that you arent actually stressed.

and technically, you have been ‘exercising’ … all that running around is a change in physical behavior that your body is adjusting too. that’s definitively a new exercise.

    1. Stress could lead to loss of appetite, which could lead to less food consumed as well. Not everyone stress eats; some people stress smoke, which I don’t do.

My point on the exercise means I didn’t also go to the gym in the last 2 weeks. The weight loss is almost definitely due to all the running around doings MS although my Apple Watch doesn’t show an increase in steps taken per day, so not really sure.
