Traveling pants

So Single Flyer tweeted about his favorite traveling pants – the North Face Kilowatt pants.  While I’ve never consciously thought about what pants I should wear while traveling, on almost every longhaul flight, when I’m changing into and out of my pajamas, I think, “Dammit, why am I wearing these jeans?”  Look, I get it.  I don’t want to be THAT guy that wears sweats through the airport and a plane, but I also want to be comfortable.  So I bought the pants from Backcountry, got them in, tried them on, and my first thoughts were – 1) why is there velcro in the crotch and 2) I wish the material was softer.  The more I think about #2, it’d be hard to find really comfortable pants that don’t look like sweats.

Anyway, James chimed in and told me to try the Lululemon ABC pants, which I did, and while they were more stylish than the North Face pants, I was between sizes (needed an odd size) which they don’t make, so I’ll pass.  Plus, they were 2X the price and I didn’t think the material wasn’t as comfortable as the North Face pants.  It seems there is an inverse correlation between style and comfort happening here.

Any other suggestions from you guys?

Random news

  • I FINALLY got my $1,000 BoA business checking account deposit from that promo back in November.  I also moved my money out and did a secure chat with them to close it.
  • I still haven’t gotten my 50K AA miles from my Citigold checking account yet although they’ve told me I’ve qualified.
  • My wife called in for her SPG Biz card that she got back in August to get an extra 5K pts, and the supervisor gave it to her.  Others found nice enough supervisors who gave them 5K to 10K extra pts for cards they got in 2014.  I haven’t called in for my new Biz card yet since I wanted to wait for my 25K to post before complaining, but I also worry the door may be closing.  Thanks to DoC for publicizing it.

Has your wife received the promised 5k SPG points yet? I haven’t received mine and it’s been over a week now.

Also, I have been using travel pants from http://www.clothingarts.com. They have a more business looking pair of slacks and also cargo pants and shorts. I have the slacks and they are comfortable, roll up nice, and have tons of pocket options. Just be prepared to be stopped in security due to all the pockets. They weren’t cheap at $100, but I’ve worn them on 4-week trips throughout Europe and SE Asia.

Dough! Looks like I haven’t gotten yet. Ugh. Will need to have wife call back.

Checked again today and nothing still. Keep me posted about your wife’s points.

You should have a look at Betabrand’s dress pant sweatpants (betabrand.com). It’s on the pricier side, but they are surely comfy 🙂

Thanks. I do, and I emailed him Wednesday. He said he would get back to me Thursday, but I never heard back from him.

I opened the boa small biz act in sept, but no bonus as of today. Any advice on how to fix this?

Hopefully you have the contact info of your rep. Email them. That’s what I did. But it seems like they are paying out in batches because 3 other people I know got paid out on the same day as me.

Those look too much like sweatpants though Josh. I don’t think I could rock those in F class unless I was a basketball player.

Banana republic travelers jeans. Classy like jeans but stretchy like leggings (I’m told). Asserts a business class lifestyle without screaming “mileage ticket”

Nice! I’ll give them a shot.

perhaps apropos… they are usually excluded from the BR perpetual 40% off sale, so you gotta try to snag em when there is “no exclusions,” which happens maybe once per quarter.

http://shop.bluffworks.com/ Bluffworks are the only pants I’ll ever buy (I own 4 pairs now). Stylish for both casual yet formal settings, don’t wrinkle, don’t stink, hidden zip pockets, and a cool cellphone pocket that lets you sit…without sitting on the phone. Stefan, the entrepreneur behind the company, is always a super cool guy who cares about his customers.

Those pants do look nice. Thanks.

Any US Army surplus BDU trousers, preferably in a camouflage pattern not currently in use by the US Army wherever it is you’re going. Admittedly, this can make shopping tough since the US Army is almost everywhere and there are about 350 different camouflage patterns carried in the DoD spare parts manual. But they are comfortable, and there’s enough pockets for a 7-course meal. Toss in some rainbow suspenders and you’ll be all the rage among the jet-setter in-crowd.

I don’t think I could rock camouflage pants, but I bet all those pockets are handy.

Banana republic traveler Jean. You’ll love it.

Thanks. Looks like another reader recommended them too. I’m going to check them out this weekend.
