Just completed my Virgin America Gold to Alaska MVP Gold status match

Introduction

A couple of weeks ago, I had written about how to transfer 80K AMEX MR to get Virgin America Gold and then status match to Alaska Air MVP Gold.  Well this is to let you know that I did fully complete the entire process.  Initially I wasn’t going to do this because I didn’t have any PAID flights lined up for 2016, but my my, how things changed quickly.  At my wedding in Hawaii, I found out 2 more family members will be getting married in 2016 as well as my good friend who is going to get married in Maui next year as well (will be great use of the 4 free upgrade certs.)  Those reasons and the 2 BA fares  I’ve bought (which I’ll look into crediting it to AS) made the decision very easy.  Plus, I figure they’ll probably change their status match rules down the road, so I may as well lock it in now before they change it.  And there’s also my wife so if we need to status match again down the road, I can use her account.

Process

I initially emailed elite.flyer@alaskaair.com that I wanted to do this status match.  I got an automated reply that basically said, “If you didn’t attach it the first time, reply back with your current elite card, an estatement, and a picture of your ID.”  So, don’t bother sending the first email saying you want to do it; just get down to business and say you want to status match and attach those 3 items.  I attached a front picture of my driver’s license, a screenshot of my VX Gold from the VX web site, and a screenshot of my DIGITAL gold status card.  I sent that in on 10/14, and on 10/22, I got this email:

mvpgold

I should now have MVP Gold through 12/31/2016.  If you need more info on how to do this, just see my previous post.
