So about that Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s ban…

As you all know, I’ve been banned from Bloomingdale’s.  It looks to be an address ban because I tried to buy something with my wife’s account shipped to our house, and that order was rejected.  I hadn’t tried to buy anything from Macy’s since the ban.  However, this past week, I had to buy an item for a gift registry on Macy’s.com.  I went out to Cardpool to buy a Macy’s GC for about 13% off.  I then went through the United shopping portal to get 10X at the time to buy said item on the registry.  A few hours later, I got an email my order was cancelled.

Angered and knowing time was running out on the United 10X portal, I said the heck with it and launched a new private session (same IP), I then bought the same exact item and did a GUEST CHECKOUT using the same gift card.  The only difference this time is I used my mom’s address and her spam email address.  After a couple of days, I got the shipment email.  So what we know so far:

  • Bloomingdale’s ban = Macy’s ban
  • Clearly not IP-banned
  • Clearly not GC-banned (they aren’t flagging the GC to cancel all orders that use that GC)
  • Forget using any of your old accounts either from Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s
  • Forget using your same home address (maybe)

About that last point – can I just use guest checkout from now on?  Probably won’t work due to my wife experiment.  How about if I checked out using my mom’s account and had the item shipped to my address?  Maybe I should have done these tests before publishing this post…

Moral of story – if you are banned from either of these 2 stores and you need to buy a wedding registry item, do a guest checkout, use a new address, and pay with a gift card.
