Gift Card Run and Miscellaneous news

smartandfinal

As you’re reading this, I’m on a plane on my way to Los Angeles equipped with a lot of AMEX cards.  I have an Excel doc with all 40 Smart & Final locations you see on the map.  I’m still not sure which route I’m going to take, so I’m going to have my buddy tell me which route is best at lunch.  Hopefully I won’t have to hit up too many stores since I do have to catch my flight back at 7pm.  Best case is 10 or fewer stores, but I have a feeling I’ll be hitting around 20.

Other News Around the Web

Samsclub AMEX Offer $20 off $20

Tweet #AmexSamsClub to get $20 off $20 purchase. I hear GC purchases are being coded as Sams Club Photos, which is excluded from the deal.  I’d wait until the dust settles before making any purchase.  This definitely makes me rethink switching my last 2 Serve cards and subaccounts to Redbird.

Free 1,000 AA miles

Link.  Pretty painless.  Just skip through the videos and answer question at the end.

Office Depot $20 off $300 in gift cards this Sunday

From Frequent Miler.  Limit of 2 per customer.  This is definitely worth it since it’s instant and no rebate.

Chase 50K + $50 Offer

I really don’t like writing about credit cards since I’m sure you’ve seen it on all of the other blogs already.  However, I would be doing you a disservice NOT to tell you about the deal.  This is actually one of the highest offers for a while now.  I THINK it may have given a higher statement credit in the past, but I don’t think it’s gone higher than 50,000 points (well, 55,000 points once you add an authorized user.)  I haven’t had a Chase United card for almost 3 years now, and I actually haven’t applied for a Chase personal card in over a year and a half (my last being the Sapphire), so I’ll wait till my last round of credit card apps cool a bit and then go ahead and get this one in late May or so.

My strategy with this card – Get the card, buy $4,000 of AGC through a 2% portal, and put the card back in the sock drawer.  Then sell the 2 United lounge passes for like $25 each.  Sorry, 1 United mile per dollar spend is SUPER WEAK SAUCE.  Due to the devaluation, my United miles are now collecting dust.  Chase needs to increase the spend to 2 United miles per dollar and then they’ll get my attention.

Citi Thank You Premier 50K and Prestige Offers

I may be in the minority here or maybe it’s because I haven’t flown AA in over 10 years, all this ‘1.6X on AA flights’ just doesn’t do it for me.  Maybe if I lived in an AA city like DFW or ORD, then this would be more interesting.  The only thing I see TY points are good for would be to transfer to Singapore Airlines, which I’ve already done once and don’t plan on doing again for the next couple of years.  Maybe I’ll get my wife a card since they always have good retention offers and I haven’t paid an annual fee in 3 years.

Citi AT&T Access More card

This is also on all the blogs.  I most likely will sign up for this card (no referral link here), so I can get the phone and flip it for some cash.  The 3X online TY points is what really has me interested.  It’ll be interesting to see which sites work with the 3X (giftcardmall.com maybe or I’ll even take a Raise or Cardpool.)
